NEAR-FEST Thank You

Well we did it we successfully pulled off the first of hopefully of many more demonstrations on the Hamshack Hotline. I would first and foremost like to thank W1RC Mr Mike and John Flood of the NEAR-FEST organization. They offered a complimentary table, to enable us to show the New England ham community to Hamshack Hotline. Second I would like to thank Ben Gore who is the IT person for NEAR-FEST. And of course I am so very appreciative of the local hams David KD4CLJ, Dave W2DAN, and Don N1PMB. All of them either contributed in equipment, or their time. I am hoping now that we here in the land where HH was conceived, that others world wide would take an initiative to do promotions in similar venues. I also would be remiss if I did not extend my thanks to those of you who reached out, making yourselves available for conversation on 302. Ty again Ken KA1EZH

Reminder NEAR-FEST

I am once again reminding all of our New England hams. This Friday and Saturday (Oct 12 and 13th 2018), Hamshack Hotline will have a table set up at NEAR-FEST. Several of our HHops teams will be there to show what HH is all about. Please post and share to fellow hams, and the aspiring hams amongst us.

HHUS Help Desk Tickets

Due to Hamshack Hotline migrating to the “Cloud”, all new HHUS provisional and change request will be placed on hold and in a que. After migration tickets will be resolved on order in which received. Also beware that voice mail on HHUS may not crossover after migration.

HHUS Migration to cloud. Please read!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 5, 2018
We are scrambling a plan to move HHUS (the birthplace of Hamshack Hotline) into the cloud. Events
are happening right now that require this move. John (K1WIZ) is preparing to move his family to the
Atlanta GA region as a result of new opportunities requiring a total relocation. Because of this, John’s
family already has preparations underway to place their home on the market and complete the move
over the next month. This ultimately means that the physical VM server hosting HHUS will be shut
down and shipped to GA when the move is completed. There are a lot of moving parts to this change.
We have not been able to determine the availability of symetrical gigabit fiber based internet on the
destination end due to the fact that a final residence has not yet been purchased and secured in the new
location. This is not expected to happen until at least a month or two.
The plan now is to prepare HHUS to be migrated to the cloud so we can continue to service US
customers and keep established lines available with minimal downtime. Please note that there will be
periods of downtime as engineering efforts will be needed for the migration that require the server to be
taken offline for copy and mirgration testing. Once a migration path is realized, efforts will begin
immediately and there will be a service interruption during this time.
How does this affect Hamshack Hotline and US customers?
• All configurations and adding of new accounts will be immediately frozen – ie. HHOPS will
not add any new provisioned lines on HHUS until the migration has been completed. No new
changes to the server will be done in any way.
• Ticketed requests for new lines or changes will be held on the helpdesk until the cloud
migration is complete.
• HHOPS Helpdesk will also be unavailable as it too will be migrated to the cloud.
• TFTP profile access will be temporarily unavailable as part of this migration as profiles will be
moved as well. You will not need to adjust your phone until an announcement is made
when the migration is complete!
• ALL service on HHX, HHEU, & HHUL will be unaffected and callers will be able to continue
to direct dial between these peers. Bridges however will be temporarily unavailable. Only
HHUS lines will be temporarily down.
• During downtime, HHUS lines will go “yellow” or Orange. This is expected. They will return
to green state when services are migrated and restored.
We will do everything in our power to keep downtime to a minimum but we ask for your patience and
understanding as John prepares to make this major move. His plate will be full, but he will do his best
to position HHUS for continued success in the cloud.

Hamshack Hotline Assessment?

We have had a very exciting past several months here at Hamshack Hotline. We have grown from two operational servers, to now four serving the globe. We have recently integrated the unlicensed portion for those who are just venturing into communications, in order to promote those people to eventually become licensed amateur radio operators.

I am looking for honest assessment of the service, and those who attempt to serve you as the client. Let us know what you like, and what you don’t like about Hamshack Hotline.

In that I would like you to expound on the positive, and have a solution for the negative and not a bitch session against any individual or the system. Hamshack Hotline is what we as a whole make it. If we work together the sky is the limit, if we make it an individual thing we have no hope.

If there are changes you want we can look at them, I am not saying we will but we will keep and open mind and do what is best for the good of all amateurs.

I am looking forward to your comments. Thank You Ken ReynoldsKA1EZH
