News Clip
A little clip from Ohio Section Journal. It was written by Jim Yoder, W8ERW-ARES Data Manager:
We have been working on our AREDN Mesh Network in Seneca and
Sandusky Counties and now have 8 active nodes operating including
both County EOCs. Dan AC8NP, Jim KE8ERN, Mike KC8BUJ and I
have also signed up for VOIP service with Hamshack Hotline which is
a new venture that has unique potential to enhance our capabilities
with ARES. Currently this service offers telephone connections to and
between all participants and there is no charge involved other than a
small investment in the hardware required. Conference bridge
capability is also available allowing multiple users to meet via
telephone conference. There are additional features and capabilities being planned with a goal of providing a
useful means of enhancing our bag of tricks available in times of emergency. I have found the service to work
very well over the AREDN Mesh Network as well. I encourage you to have a look at Hamshack Hotline,
https://hamshackhotline.com/ and the AREDN Mesh Network, https://www.arednmesh.org/. Both of these
offer capabilities that in an emergency may not otherwise be available to ARES or our served agencies.
Expanding HH uses
I was intrigued by Robert E. Hobbs post on use of phones in our hospital emergency communication plan. I know many radio organizations are tightly affiliated with their local hospital. Again as we have seen from our folks in Louisiana and Ohio, the Hamshack hotline is a vital tool in augmenting our RF communication in their communications centers. I love seeing our system being implemented in different settings. The one apparently elusive one is National Weather Service, I would love to see them get on board. I feel Hamshack hotline would be important to their Skywarn activities. If anyone can make in roads, would be appreciated.
Hamshack Hotline Zello Channel
All we now have a Hamshack Hotline Zello channel now. You need to have ham call, or if you are a non ham and IRN number. If you are a non ham please go to: https://www.memberplanet.com/irn for your number.

Entertaining Idea of NET’s on 302
So it has been mentioned several times, about getting a NET of some sort on the 302. My question is what subjects might we be looking to entertain? Who is willing to step up to the plate and run one? I would love to see some folks take this ball of wax and roll with it. I think if we could do something similar to the Digicomm Cafe say maybe twice a month, it might be a nice start. I would like to keep it Hamshack Hotline oriented weather it be Emcomm, WX/Skywarn, FAX, and or repeater linking. Other subjects can be brought up, and before the Ops team for approval. 73 Ken KA1EZH
Website tweaks
OK so I have gone to website and think I have made things more accessible? When you go to documents and put your cursor over highlighted field it will go to a page with multiple sections of information. To create an account to Help desk just go upper right hand corner where it says “create account”. I am trying to be responsive to your wants, needs, and criticisms. Please let me know if these changes were what you were looking for, and if they have improved your ability to navigate our page. 73 Ken KA1EZH
Reacquaint with Hamshack Hotline Covenant Please
All please reacquaint yourselves with the Hamshack Hotline Covenant. You can find it with a link on our Hamshackhotline.com site, and at the help desk knowledge base. We have updated it so it better represents our service, and clarifies past ambiguities.
